RE: We've Started to Sell Everything & Some Advice

Interesting...our son and family live a few miles from where you are...Marengo. I think you are on the right track. Save, save and save some more and you should be OK.

RE: How do you protect your kitchen knives?

I also keep mine in a block behind the sink. It is on a piece of rubber shelf liner cut to fit and never moves :B

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

Well, we are again waiting for the "sold" sign, but thank goodness it is not affecting our fulltiming. Five years ago, we bought a house so MIL would not be homeless. We charged her nothing, thinking it was an investment. Today DH is in So Cal moving her into an assisted living facility. Tomorrow the house goes up for sale. Wish us luck...in this market, we just want to get rid of it:E

RE: Residency

South Dakota is cheap too, just way too cold. You don't have to stay there, don'cha' know :E SD worked better for us at the time, and we are extremely happy with our choice :B You bet'cha...:W

RE: Does it ever Occur....

Tripwire....I, too, have had my share of that campfire, high in the mountains with my good horse by my side. Maybe that is what this all boils down to......finding the serenity of life. My nights on the river do for me right now, but one day, I want to go back to my campfire and a good horse, if just to relive those memories.

RE: Does it ever Occur....

OK...I'm here....and I agree with Serena, Wacky, trkrhelp, Firedude and others. This thing called "fulltiming" is in many ways, a fantasy to most. To those of us who have been doing it for many years......it is a life that no other comes close to. Reality, to me, is getting up in the morning and trying to find a safe way to walk my first 10 miles of the day. Then on to mundane things, like moving the 20 plus sprinklers on 8 acres of cg so they don't hit the parked campers. Then get down to the kitchen to get the food ready for tomorrow's overnight fish camp. Then, somewhere, I need to do the laundry, make cheesecakes and fix the split irrigation line, because Terry is flying out today to settle his Mom into an assisted living facility, and I need to do some of his chores. Actually, this life is not that much different than my former life...juggling everything to make it all work. The difference here is, that I have chosen this way of life and if I don't like what I am doing, or where I am...I just pack it up and move on down the road. Freedom? is that what fulltiming is? Yes and no. We are freer in many ways than those tied to stix and brix, but in other ways, we are just as tied to everyday things as everyone else. We just chose to do them in a different way. Enough...I need to get back to my duties...fishcamp is coming up tomorrow and I need to get away from the cg and commune with nature, including the meese, coons and snakes :B

RE: New post old topic

You are going to receive answers all over the board on this one :E My take is that if it is what you want to do and where you want to be...so be it. I, personally, think it is too much. Our current position is 11 hours total for the site and all perks, $8.00 an hour over that. Do what you are comfortable with. Some will flame you for taking the position, if you do. Don't let them get to you........

RE: Close Encounters of the...

Well, back from the river again... No moose this time, thank goodness, but did have a weird group of fishermen. The first thing one of them asked me was what kind of power we had :E What power:? We are in the middle of nowhere...seems he needed to charge his cell phone so he could talk to his stock broker :E They all tried to impress Mike and me, but they sure went about it the wrong way :W A coon did dump the trash can off the grill where we put it at night. We will have to come up with something better, tho....now he has learned. I heard a crash about midnite and got my trusty mini-mag lite out. Cracked the tent zipper and I peeked out. He was the biggest coon I have ever seen. Dining on garlic mashed potatoes and ribeye steak. Didn't get the dutch oven apple crisp, tho...that was in the cooler :W Then he or his buddy jumped out of the tree right onto my tent :E Scrambled around a bit, scaring the **** out of me, but finally gave up...he won't intimidate me :E We do have good times and meet some really great folks.
